Shakespeare was really onto to something when he asked that. To be accepted or not to be. What is it with society and this age-old problem? It hovers over us from the day we step into the "real world", constantly wondering if we are good enough, smart enough, pretty enough. High school only further pushes these thoughts around in our brain. High school, with it's dreary halls and classes that last an eternity, supposedly teaches us to be different and unique, but in reality it tries to push students into the mold of what is "accepted". What if high school wasn't really high school? What is instead of teaching students to be the same, it celebrated their differences? I know from personal experience, that I am in no way as smart as the valedictorian of my class. What if when high school taught students to celebrate their differences, it was teaching students to not worry about being accepted? That age-old question, to be accepted or not to be? That wouldn't have to exist anymore! People could be free to think what they wanted, love who they wanted, be who the want to be without the molds of society trying to hold them back! Maybe, just maybe, then people would stop hiding behind masks of who they are "supposed" to be, and they could just be themselves. Wouldn't that be nice?
